I strongly believe humour is one of the best ways to not just lighten the load of life, but make people think about things a bit differently.
Some friends have said I shouldn’t mix serious social comment with music or comedy. That it dilutes the messages and confuses people. I can see their point.
If I was paid by a publishing company to just produce serious comment or pointed comedy or silly songs I’d definitely stick to one voice. But I’m not.
The beauty of Substack is that it doesn’t limit a creator to one genre. Creators never exist on one plane. It’s the chaos of multiple mood levels that in some way spark the creativity. Sometimes is works. Sometimes it doesn’t.
Nancy Bell’s Australia Day message entitled ‘A New Chapter Begins’ will make some viewers cringe. Pushing the boundaries of normality is what humour is all about and for some, those boundaries are sacred.
